At Bridge Referrals we make patient care and sterility a priority. Unfortunately, to do this it is unavoidable that we need to use sterile equipment and consumables that are packaged in single use plastic. We accept that using these has a negative impact on the environment
To minimise this we have partnered with Terracycle to collect and recycle plastic packaging that would otherwise not be recycled in mixed general recycling.
Bridge Referrals opened on the 31st of October 2022, since opening we have collected seven large zero waste plastic package boxes. Each holds about 3500 units of plastic packaging. That is a whopping 24,500 units of single use plastic that we have saved from being dumped in landfill or entering our oceans
Bridge Referrals has been awarded the ‘Surfers against Sewage’ silver award for reducing our use of single use plastic. Where possible we source alternatives to plastic or reuse plastic equipment to reduce consumption and if their use is unavoidable, we recycle.
In order to recycle as much of our waste as possible we have a strict waste management system in place. This makes recycling easier when we are busy concentrating on caring for our furry patients.
