Oncology
At Bridge referrals we understand that it is often a scary and emotional time when your pet is diagnosed with cancer. Our highly experienced team delivers the best possible care to your pet as well as supporting yourself through this process. Our primary aim is to provide an empathic and compassionate service with your pet’s welfare and quality of life being our top priority. Cancer treatments in veterinary medicine are constantly evolving and we are proud to be able to offer state of the art therapy to our patients. We also understand that all of our patients are different and it is for this reason that our treatment options are tailored to the individual whilst enabling a collaborative approach to include both owner and their referring veterinary surgeon.
The oncology department works very closely with our other departments, particularly our internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology and imaging teams to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to our cases. We also regularly liaise with our specialist nutrition consultant for cases in which nutrition may be of concern.
A swift diagnosis is of utmost importance in oncology patients and a team approach and a very close relationship with our diagnostic pathologists allows us to reliably diagnose disease in order to manage the condition effectively.
In order to allow us to investigate your pet’s condition, we have access to a range of state of the art imaging equipment including:
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Ultrasonography
- Radiography
We empathise that some cases may have travelled some distance to get to us and treatment sessions may not be easy to attend. We are more than happy to arrange co-management of cases for treatments if this is required. This means that certain chemotherapy treatments can be undertaken with referring veterinary surgeons where access to the necessary safety facilities is available, as well as confidence and expertise in handling of these cytotoxic medicines.
At Bridge referrals, we are always happy to provide friendly advice on the investigation and case management of oncology patients. If you are a veterinary surgeon and you have a case you would like to discuss or refer to us, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. If you are an owner and are interested in further investigation or would like to discuss treatment options in more depth with a member of our team, then please speak to your referring veterinary surgeon about arranging a referral consultation.
