The Emergency Vet Team (EVT) is delighted to welcome Sophie Rawlinson
as its Out-of-Hours Service Lead!

Sophie graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2017 and spent nine rewarding years working in a busy clinical practice, transitioning to full-time emergency and out-of-hours care in early 2020.

During her career, Sophie has gained experience across a variety of roles, including the new graduate scheme, charity medicine provision and dedicated emergency care. Alongside her clinical work, she has spent the past six years as an associate lecturer with the University of Nottingham, mentoring final-year veterinary students during their out-of-hours rotations. She is passionate about demystifying emergency medicine and helping the next generation of vets approach high-pressure situations with confidence and structure.

Emergency medicine has always been a particular passion for Sophie. She thrives in the fast-paced environment and, as a natural night owl, finds out-of-hours work a perfect fit. Committed to continuing her professional development, Sophie has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care. Keeping up to date with the latest developments in the field helps ensure she can provide informed, evidence-based care.

At the heart of Sophie’s approach is a commitment to supporting pet owners through stressful and often emotional situations with empathy, clarity and compassion. Whether managing an urgent but minor condition or helping owners navigate difficult end-of-life decisions, she aims to provide clear guidance and reassurance every step of the way.

Sophie joined EVT to help establish its brand-new out-of-hours emergency service, working collaboratively with Bridge Referrals. Her focus is on building a skilled, supportive and compassionate team that delivers exceptional emergency care to referring practices and the local community. By combining advanced diagnostic facilities with clear communication and a collaborative approach, EVT aims to be a trusted extension of primary care teams whenever emergency support is needed.

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys spending time with her husband and their two Portuguese Water Dogs, who keep them busy with weekend adventures and agility competitions. Previously an avid Ultimate Frisbee player, she has more recently swapped the disc for running shoes and taken up training for longer-distance running. With a sense of humour, Sophie admits that while some people turn to sourdough baking or gardening, she has firmly chosen the half-marathon route!

While the team hopes pets stay happy and healthy, Sophie and the wider EVT team are here to provide compassionate, high-quality emergency care whenever the unexpected happens.
