We’re delighted to welcome Joni to the Bridge Referrals team as our Head of Orthopaedics!
Joni brings a wealth of experience in small animal surgery, with a particular passion for complex orthopaedic procedures, innovative surgical techniques and continually improving outcomes for patients.
Head of Orthopaedics – Joni Viitanen
Joni graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Slovakia, in 2015. Following his graduation, he gained valuable experience in mixed general practice before completing a rotating internship at a referral hospital in Cambridgeshire. He then went on to undertake a three-year residency in small animal surgery at Ghent University in Belgium, further developing his expertise in advanced surgical techniques.
Leading our orthopaedic service
As Head of Orthopaedics, Joni has a particular interest in complex orthopaedic surgery, especially fracture management, minimally invasive techniques and joint replacement.
He is passionate about advancing surgical techniques, embracing new technologies and continually exploring ways to improve patient outcomes. Alongside his clinical work, Joni is committed to developing the orthopaedic service at Bridge Referrals, sharing his knowledge and supporting colleagues to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Joni has also published several papers in peer-reviewed surgical journals and is currently working towards the ECVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery, reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional development and advancing his surgical knowledge.
