Could your dog or cat join our team and become our next blood donor hero?

At Bridge Referrals Veterinary Centre, we are excited to launch our Pet Blood Donor Programme, an essential initiative that supports life-saving treatments for pets in need. Blood donations from healthy pets can make a profound difference in emergency situations and for pets undergoing surgery or treatment for various conditions.

We are currently appealing for both dog and cat blood donors who could help save patients’ lives by donating some of their blood.

Nala came in as an emergency blood donor!

Did you know that there are numerous conditions that may require patients to have a blood transfusion, such as; various causes of Anaemia (low number of red blood cells), Thrombocytopaenia (low number of platelets) and in preparation for high risk surgeries such as adrenal or cardiovascular surgery. 

In order for your pet to be eligible they must meet the following criteria:

Dogs:

  • Aged between 1 and 8 years old
  • Weigh at least 25kg
  • Fit and healthy 
  • Have a good, calm temperament
  • Have never travelled outside UK and Ireland
  • Up to date with their vaccinations
  • Not on any medication 
  • Have never received a blood transfusion 

Cats:

  • Aged between 1 and 10 years old
  • Weigh at least 4kg
  • Fit and healthy 
  • Have a good temperament
  • Have never travelled outside UK and Ireland
  • Up to date with their vaccinations
  • Up to date with flea/worm treatments
  • Not on any medication 
  • Have never received a blood transfusion

We ensure a comfortable and stress-free environment for our donors. Our experienced team is dedicated to making the donation process as smooth and positive as possible for both pets and their owners.
