Handsome Remy!
It’s not only your pets that manage to get themselves into trouble… ours do too.
Remy, who is part of the team at Bridge Referrals and belongs to one of our night nurses, was sadly involved in a road traffic accident eight weeks ago. It was a huge shock when Jessie, his owner, called in, understandably distressed to find Remy struggling.
He was rushed straight in, where he was immediately assessed and stabilised by our orthopaedic surgeon Emma. Remy was in shock on arrival, unable to rise and markedly painful over his pelvis, with significant instability on palpation.
Once stabilised, a conscious full-body CT scan revealed extensive pelvic trauma: a severely displaced left sacroiliac luxation, a right iliac body fracture, multiple pelvic floor fractures, and a left ischial tuberosity fracture for good measure.

Remy’s CT scan
Once Remy was well enough for anaesthesia, surgery was performed to stabilise his pelvis. A sacroiliac screw was placed to address the luxation, and a specialised feline pelvic fracture plate (FLIP plate – designed by Fusion) was used to repair the right iliac body fracture, making the repair more straightforward than traditional systems.
Remy remained hospitalised post-operatively to allow careful recovery and to regain confidence on his feet, before continuing his rehabilitation at home.
Seven weeks post-op, Remy is now walking confidently again. He is comfortable and pain-free, although he has lost some muscle mass in his hindquarters. Follow-up radiographs show good fracture healing, and he is now gradually being given more space to move around, helping him rebuild strength before full access to the house is allowed again.

Post-operative radiographs
It will take time and dedication to rebuild his muscle and fitness given the severity of his injuries, but he is clearly in excellent hands with Jessie. We are incredibly grateful for the trust placed in us to care for him during such a difficult time and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing him back on his feet, walking and purring once again.
Stay out of trouble, Remy! 🐾
