Coco enjoying cuddles from one of our nurses! 🩷🐾
Coco is a 9-month-old Yorkshire Terrier × Chihuahua who unfortunately fractured her right front leg after jumping from the sofa.
She was examined by Emma, one of our orthopaedic surgeons, who performed radiographs that revealed a displaced fracture of both the radius and ulna. Due to the nature of the injury, surgical repair was recommended.

Pre-operative radiographs!
The fracture was carefully reduced and stabilised using a 2mm locking plate applied to the cranial aspect of the radius. The plate was secured with four screws above and three screws below the fracture, providing strong stability to support healing.

Post-operative radiographs!
Following surgery, Coco stayed with us overnight for ongoing pain management, monitoring, and, of course, plenty of cuddles from our nursing team. She was discharged home the following day with oral pain relief and detailed post-operative care instructions.
Coco’s recovery has required lots of dedication from both her and her owners. She has been on strict crate rest with gradually increasing lead walks over the last five weeks. Repeat radiographs have shown that the fracture is healing very well, which is fantastic news.

She now has a further four weeks of gradually building up her lead exercise before she can return to running around, playing, and enjoying the sunshine once again! ☀️
A huge well done to Coco and her owners for all their hard work and commitment throughout her recovery journey. We look forward to seeing her back to her normal happy, active self very soon! 💙
