Bridge Referrals has now completed the development work at their Multidisciplinary Referral Centre, this has opened up further capacity in our Ophthalmology Services.

We now have two dedicated ophthalmic consult rooms which have been specifically designed to house all our specialist equipment for the examination. Ophthalmology consultations are available everyday. We have a dedicated Ophthalmology Theatre. This houses the microsurgical operating microscope and is permanently set up and ready. Giving pets access for emergency surgery when required.

The building has been designed with more space and easy access to store our microsurgical equipment for surgery. This creates efficiencies, reduces stress and aids in patient recovery.

Our expanded hospitalisation facilities further supports our Out of Hours (OOH) services allowing patients to be hospitalised overnight. The building now allows us to hold ophthalmology “lunch and learn” sessions as well as CPD events in our new conference rooms.

Independence

Ophthalmology at an independent Referral Centre, like Bridge Referrals, offers a personalised service. We have total clinical freedom which leads to quick decision making, facilitating tailored patient care. This allows us to be more responsive to our referring vets and clients needs. Being independent allows us to directly reinvest back into our Ophthalmology Services to be able to provide the best service.

We will always use local companies as much as possible. One of our suppliers is in the same location as Bridge Referrals. Altomed provides our specialist instruments and consumables for ophthalmic surgery, with an office in Boldon Colliery and manufacturing facilities in Gateshead.

Ophthalmology now has a Fixed Fee pricing structure for common surgeries. Our independence allows us to offer these at the best price point possible, at exceptionally competitive rates.

Emergency Out Of Hours

Bridge Referrals offer 24/7 Ophthalmology emergency service right here in the North East. Our location, with great road links, gives these cases a true North East base to go to. Veterinary practices throughout the Tees, Wear and Tyne conurbations now have a first class ‘out of hours’ Ophthalmology service right on their doorstep.

Our newly completed centre gives capacity for us to offer same day emergency appointments for Ophthalmology cases. The breadth of our service offering opens up other investigation and treatment options if required, including MRI and CT. Working in collaboration with other disciplines in the same centre, we offer a full holistic service for our referring practices and their clients.

Top choice for Ophthalmology

The capacity and range of services now available at Bridge Referrals is seeing a mix of referral requests from either primary care veterinary clinics or from their clients requesting to be referred to the centre.

“Thanks to the investment in our facilities we are striving to be the first choice for Ophthalmology Referrals in the North East. We are able to offer appointments from 8am through until 6pm, 5 days a week and provide emergency out of hours care here in our local area”, Sarah Harrison, Director.

Bridge Referrals

24/7 Ophthalmology Services

“We regularly spend our day in the dark for consultations. Natural light makes us happier Ophthalmologists! I particularly love our new vet’s office. Such a lovely place to discuss cases with our team and our other disciplines.” Olivia Grice, Ophthalmologist.

Our increased Ophthalmology capacity means that pets are treated quickly within a modern, state of the art, clinical environment. Investment in online systems allows for the rapid submission of referrals and quick communication with our referring vets directly with an ophthalmologist.
